European Initiatives

PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, is a public-private partnership, which aims to promote and strengthen the use of high performance computing (HPC) in Europe, and improve the energy efficiency of advanced computing systems, whilst minimising their environmental impact.

PRACE is organised as a pan-European supercomputing infrastructure network, involving members from 26 countries, funded through the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation. The non-profit organisation provides access to top quality computing, data management services and resources to enable the development of cutting edge large-scale scientific projects and high-performance engineering applications.

The main mission of PRACE is to promote high-impact scientific discovery and engineering research throughout industry fields to boost Europe's competitiveness and maximise societal benefits as a result of scientific innovation and discovery. The computer systems accessible through PRACE seek to meet the needs of the scientific community, which is why they are continuously updated and upgraded to be at the highest level of HPC technology.

Researchers, small and medium sized entreprises (SMEs) and academic organisations can all apply to access some of the latest technology on HPC in the world throughout the year and benefit from its use to develop their projects, innovations and activities.
