Expertkompetens - Sweden
Expertkompetens is a programme by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation (KK stiftelsen) that aims to provide opportunities for continuous professional development in AI and autonomous systems for working professionals. It targets people already working in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) sector by offering an opportunity for them to hone their skills and upgrade their knowledge via work-based learning programmes.
The foundation's programme is designed to support businesses, including managers and directors interested in upskilling their employees further. This initiative targets ICT professionals and other digital experts, looking to build up further digital competences. SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) in the digital sector can also benefit from the initiative, as the programmes can be complementary to full time work.

Why is this a good practice?
Since the programme's launch in 2016, Expertkompetens has successfully implemented several projects that received international recognition. The initiative's results are well-documented and suitable for knowledge transfer and replicability in other contexts.
The programme is successful also in terms of building an engaged community around digital skills and jobs in Sweden: it enhances the work of the foundation with the business community in Sweden and abroad. Expertkompetens is also deeply rooted in the policy area of lifelong learning and supports continuous upskilling for professionals across areas and interests, and the programme has offered a way to start tackling these issues.
For professionals involved in the programme, the benefits are numerous: feedback received highlighted the positive impact of professionals from different companies taking courses together. The combination of industry sectors participating in the programme is another strong aspect that provides a space for knowledge-exchange and brainstorming of ideas.
Contributions from the Knowledge Foundation (KK stiftelsen) have been crucial when it comes to charting this new approach or form of skills enhancement and building a strong research and knowledge community around this area.
