The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group's 2024-2027 Strategic Roadmap outlines a comprehensive plan to address Europe's economic challenges and opportunities by focusing on eight key policy priorities. These priorities aim to strengthen Europe's economic resilience, accelerate green and digital transitions, and reinforce the EIB Group's role as a pivotal financial institution within the EU and globally.

The eight policy priorities outlined in the roadmap are:

  • Climate Bank, consolidate EIB's role in financing the green transition. For instance, a pilot project for a new SME energy efficiency program will be initiated to expand existing technologies that generate significant energy efficiency savings, resulting in increased profits and productivity gains across the entire entrepreneurial sector.

  • Digitalisation and New Technologies, through the new Strategic Tech-EU program, the EIB will support net-zero and key technologies, focusing on critical raw materials and innovation.

  • Security and Defence, adapt lending policies to support Europe’s security and defence industries, especially by opening its dedicated SME credit lines to companies active in security and defence

  • Cohesion Policy, leverage existing resources to address regional disparities and support integration through digital and physical infrastructures.

  • Agriculture and Bioeconomy, enhance financial support for sustainable agriculture, bioeconomy, and climate adaptation.

  • Social Infrastructure, invest in education, upskilling and reskilling, health, and housing to boost productivity and societal resilience.

  • Investments Outside the EU, streamline processes and focus on strategic projects to support EU policies globally, including reconstruction efforts in Ukraine.

  • Capital Markets Union, pioneer pan-European financial instruments to deepen capital markets and support scale-ups and innovative companies.

The EIB Group aims to close Europe’s investment gap, strengthen productivity, and support the green, digital, and security transitions. By leveraging its financial strength and strategic partnerships, the EIB will play a critical role in shaping Europe's future economic landscape and maintaining its competitive edge globally.
