To make sure that companies, and especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), can make the most out of these opportunities, the European Commission launched the Smart Anything Everywhere (SAE) initiative in 2015, closely linked with the action line on Digital Innovation Hubs.

The SAE aligns different projects (so-called Innovation Actions) in various Technology Areas such as:

  1. Cyber-physical and embedded systems,
  2. Customised Low Energy Computing powering Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things,
  3. Flexible and wearable electronics/Organic Large Area Electronics,
  4. Widening Digital Innovation Hubs.

All Innovation Actions (IAs) offer funding to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-caps to enhance their products and services through the inclusion of innovative digital technologies.
