Crescere in Digitale (Growing in Digital) is an innovative project that trains Italian young unemployed people with the latest digital skills and matches them with local businesses. The project is implemented by Unioncamere (Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce) in partnership with Google, and promoted by ANPAL (Italian National Agency for Active Labor Policies). The initiative aims to promote, through the acquisition of digital skills, the employability of young NEETs – those who are not in education, employment or training – and invest in their skills by offering them a learning and job placement path.
How does this programme work?
Crescere in Digitale combines education on digital skills with hands-on work experience. First, it provides a 50h online training course covering subjects like website building, social networking and online advertising. After that, participants are matched with enterprises that want to improve their online presence, giving them the opportunity to work together. In this way, the initiative helps both young unemployed to enhance their digital skills and enter the world, both the digital innovation of businesses and SMEs. All young people residing in Italy (between 15 and 29), enrolled for free in the "Garanzia Giovani" (Youth Guarantee) programme, can participate in the initiative.
The course is totally online and consists of 25 chapters, for a total of 98 modules and 50 hours of lessons, developed through e-learning tools based on the MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) model, with remote video lessons and materials downloadable support. The course deals with various topics in the field of digital skills, including:
- Understanding the digital ecosystem
- Creating and developing an online presence within an SME
- How to interact with companies and communication agencies
- Social media management
- SEO marketing
- Video marketing
- How to measure the growth of the online presence
- Cloud, big data and machine learning
- New business models for the Internet economy
- Creation and management of eCommerce
- Cybersecurity basics
The local training workshops
At the end of the test, participants need to take a test to demonstrate their newly-gained abilities. Eligible people who pass the test will be able to enrol in an orientation and training workshop, to be held near their residence. Local training workshops allow interested businesses to meet and interview trainees in person, with the aim of employing them for a six-month paid internship.
Finally, the programme includes the possibility to do 6-months internships on the issues of business digitalization at local enterprises. Each internship provides for an indemnity of 500 euros per month, entirely disbursed from the Youth Guarantee programme. The internship represents a practical training experience, based on a personalised work plan and supported by an online community, built specifically for the interns. Companies will be able to host one or more trainees, without any reimbursement costs for them.
