The EU Code Week MOOC is a massive open online course, designed by European Schoolnet within the framework of the EU Code Week initiative - a large-scale European initiative, which aims to promote coding for everyone. The MOOC targets teachers from primary and secondary schools, interested in learning more about the different ways, in which they can encourage computational thinking and the development of programming skills in their classrooms.
The EU Code Week initiative
EU Code Week is a European grassroots initiative, organised in October every year. The initiative and the events in its framework aim at awakening citizens' and especially children’s and teenagers’ interest in coding, computational thinking, robotics, and related digital skills. Millions of participants, including schools, institutions and people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds take part in the initiative each year.
The objectives of EU Code Week MOOC
Teachers, participating in the MOOC will also find out more about the European Code Week and discover practical tips on getting involved in the community around the initiative. The course also incorporates lesson plans to help integrate computational thinking and programming into teaching and learning. The lesson plans are available in 29 languages, including all European ones.
The course is split into 5 modules, which work together to raise awareness about the importance of integrating digital technology and programming skills within teaching and learning activities, and put forward innovative approaches which teachers can adapt and apply to improve the digital competence of their classroom. The course's content is currently available free of charge through the European Schoolnet Academy.
