Cyber Citizen Initiative

The Cyber Citizen Initiative brings cybersecurity into everyday life

The Cyber Citizen Initiative is a program that has been active since 2022. It has received five million euros in funding from the EU recovery instrument for the first three-year period. Currently it is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications. The initiative is led by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications and executed by Aalto University, with Professor Petri Mähönen serving as the Project Director.

The primary objective of the Cyber Citizen Initiative is to address the practical need for fostering a security culture in the digital environment that prioritizes human well-being. Its overarching agenda is to establish a shared and comprehensive model for developing cyber citizen skills throughout the European Union, benefiting all Europeans.

What does the initiative offer?

Cyber Citizen has developed a European cybersecurity learning model that enhances cybersecurity measures and promotes common practices across the region. The SecPort portal is a website employs various e-learning methods and provides educational content on cybersecurity, tailored to different target groups. The SecPort portal includes guides, games, courses, and other materials, including courses on Cybersecurity Essentials and Influence Operations. The portal is available throughout Europe in all 24 EU languages.

Additionally, an engaging cybersecurity game has been created: the Cyber City Tycoon game that helps you identify cyber threats in an entertaining manner. In the game, you see the world through the eyes of a cybercriminal and learn to recognize the tactics and motives of cybercriminals in your everyday life. The game is also suitable for younger players: 8+ and is available throughout Europe in all 24 EU languages.
