MKB Cyber Campus is a knowledge center for cyber safety working to help strengthen the digital resilience of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Netherlands against the growing risk of cyberthreats. Designed specifically for SMEs, the Campus aims to develop their practical cybersecurity knowledge and skills through research and education in order to increase their digital resilience. Ultimately, the Campus aims to build a continuous learning path for SMEs in order to create a safe and sustainable business climate.

National collaboration

The SME Cyber Campus collaborates nationally with government agencies, educational institutions, and the business community. The Campus connects local, regional and national governments in the field of cyber safety and ensures knowledge transfer. This is done by providing information sessions, training as well as through various local and regional events.

Resources, directives and self-assessment tools

The Cyber Campus provides several tools and initiatives to support SMEs in building their resilience to cybercrime. This includes:

  • Cyber Scans: the Campus has developed different types of cyber scans to evaluate the computer systems and digital resilience of SMEs in different sectors: entrepreneurs, real estate, agricultural sector, water sports/recreation sector.
  • Emergency plan: A step-by-step guide to help SMEs develop an Emergency Plan in case of a cyber attack
  • CYRA (“CYberRAting”) is a self-assessment tool and certification which helps SMEs map their digital resilience and identify areas of improvements
  • NIS2 (Network and Information Security) is a directive developed by the European Union to support the strengthening of cybersecurity by setting security standards and reporting requirements, as well as addressing the cybersecurity risks that threaten companies and networks

Hacklab

In addition, the Cyber Campus has created the Hacklab: an initiative where young people between the age of 15-25 can get together and develop their knowledge and skills in cyber safety. The initiative puts a focus on reaching young people that have been excluded in Dutch society, and works to bridge the digital skills gap as well as shortage of employees in the cyber sector. Through the programme, young people receive mentorship, support, and are helped with getting internships and work experience in the field of cybersecurity.
