ADAPT is the Research Ireland Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology, a nationwide collaboration of 400+ research experts across eight Irish universities. Leading the Centre’s mission to bridge the gap between complex innovation and society is the Education and Public Engagement (EPE) team. This specialist unit is a recognised national leader in AI literacy and digital inclusion.

ADAPT EPE has empowered 512,000+ citizens with critical AI literacy since 2015 and mobilised 300+ researchers to embed stakeholder engagement throughout the research lifecycle. Consistently rated as “Outstanding” in international reviews, the team's '#DiscussAI' national conversation on AI has been recognised by the Irish Government for contributing to the country's 'AI and Society' goals and by the European Commission as best practice in science engagement. ADAPT also serves as a strategic advisor to multiple national bodies, setting the benchmark for inclusive education outreach in Ireland and beyond.

Major initiatives include:

  • AI Literacy in the Classroom (blended professional learning for second-level educators, supported by Google)
  • AI in My Life (teen workshops exploring AI, ethics and privacy)
  • Citizens’ Think-Ins (community forums for public deliberation on AI in society)
  • Creative and Cultural Engagement (Art or AI?, AI Art Assembly, The Bigger Picture, and BETA Festival)
  • Age-Friendly AI (AI literacy for older adults through libraries)
  • DigiAcademy (accessible digital education co-designed with people with accessibility needs)
