'Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Ethics' is a MOOC designed by the University of California UC Davis. This course provides you with background information and hands-on experience with big data and A.I., the two main forces behind the computational science revolution. Thanks to this basic course you will get a first glance of these two fundamental topics and you will learn how to start working with IBM Watson.

Context of the MOOC

With 98 percent of the world's population utilising digital technology and more than 99 percent of all mediated content being in digital format, humanity leaves behind a significant digital footprint.

Theoretically, this offers never-before-seen chances to comprehend and influence society. In reality, the only way to process this information flood is by using the same digital technology that created it. Machine learning is the engine that allows us to draw amazing new insights from massive volumes of data, while data serves as the fuel. Using algorithms to learn more about ourselves naturally raises ethical concerns because a significant portion of this data is about ourselves. For this reason, in the final part of this course will be provided notions about research ethics and about some of the old and new lines computational social scientists have to keep in mind. You will engage in practical laboratories where you will utilise IBM Watson's artificial intelligence to decipher people's personalities from their digital text trails and instruct two Google teachable machines yourself to learn about the potential and constraints of machine learning.

What you will learn?

The course will consists in around 12h of study, at your pace. You will learn how to:
