The Department of Agricultural, Food and Agro-Environmental Sciences at the University of Pisa is a multidisciplinary centre for research, higher education, and knowledge transfer in the fields of agriculture, food, and environmental sciences. The Department integrates expertise in plant and animal production, food technology, microbiology, genetics, agronomy, and environmental management to address key challenges related to sustainable agri-food systems.

Its activities span from fundamental and applied research to innovation and collaboration with public institutions and industry, supporting the development of resilient agricultural practices, food quality and safety, circular economy approaches, and ecosystem conservation. The Department is also actively engaged in European and international projects, promoting digital innovation, data-driven agriculture, and capacity building in line with current EU priorities on sustainability and digital transformation.
