Universidad de Salamanca Created byLaia Güell Paule|Updated15 May 2023Universidad de Salamanca is a Spanish public higher education institution, located in the city of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It was founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX. This first Study had, according to the decree of 1254, a master in laws, another in decrees, two of decretals, two of logic, two of grammar, two of physics or medicine, one of organ, an apothecary, a librarian and two conservatives. Thus, the University of Salamanca became, along with Paris, Oxford and Bologna, one of the first European universities. It is also the oldest university in the Hispanic world and one of the oldest in the world in continuous operation. It has a stable body of around 30,000 students.
