Women in IT Day

Women in IT Day is a free, fully online international event organised by Future Collars (Poland), now in its 7th edition, bringing together women interested in technology careers regardless of their background or current level. The initiative was designed to address the underrepresentation of women in IT roles across Europe, specifically the gap between high-level inspiration and the practical career development women actually need.

About the initiative and progress made so far

The event operates across two dedicated career tracks. Re:Start (for women entering or transitioning into IT) and UP:Great (for experienced professionals moving toward leadership roles) — and combines practical workshops, one-on-one speed mentoring sessions, interactive employer expo zones, and thematic panels on AI ethics, cybersecurity and the future of work.

The 7th edition reached 3,200 participants from 10 countries, with 120 experts, mentors and speakers involved, an average session engagement time of 3 hours, and a 9/10 average satisfaction score. Over 51% of participants came from outside IT, confirming the programme's effectiveness in reaching career switchers. Post-event data showed participants reported increased confidence, clearer career plans, and concrete next steps including skills development and recruitment follow-ups.

The model is explicitly documented for replication: its online-first, modular structure removes geographic barriers, its segmented career-stage approach is adaptable to local contexts, and its impact measurement framework enables continuous evaluation. It is highly relevant for national or regional digital inclusion initiatives, employment services, education providers, and public-private diversity and inclusion programmes.

Why is this a good practice?

Women in IT Day is a good practice because it addresses the underrepresentation of women in the IT sector by turning awareness into concrete career pathways. Its dual-track design ensures tailored support through workshops, mentoring, and direct employer engagement. The initiative has demonstrated strong impact, reaching over 3,200 participants from 10 countries with high satisfaction and clear outcomes such as increased confidence and defined career steps. Its fully online and modular format makes it highly scalable, while its structured design and measurable results make it easily transferable to other contexts focused on digital inclusion and skills development.
