The Digital Coalition and SK8 have officially joined their forces in order to support the digital and green transitions in Slovakia's regions
On the 31st of March 2025, the Digital Coalition and the Association of Self, governing Regions of Slovakia (SK8) signed a memorandum to officially support the digital and green transitions in Slovakia's regions.
A Stronger Regional Cooperation on the Digital Future project
This gathering of forces happened in the context of the Digital Future project, as a way to strengthen regional cooperation and outreach in the field of digital and green transition. The project has been running successfully for almost a year now.
The main objective of the project is to raise awareness on the importance of digital and green skills – especially among managers, but also among the general public. Part of the project is a series of professional conferences and seminars that take place across the regions of Slovakia. Each region will take the patronage of events and support the dissemination of quality and professional content among employers, entrepreneurs, but also public administration workers.
"We are very pleased that the state, the business sector and local and regional authorities are becoming increasingly aware that the digital and green transitions are not just a fashion trend, but a strategic necessity. That is why we appreciate that individual self-governing regions are actively involved in conferences and take patronage over professional events Digital Future. The transition can only be successful if its meaning is understood by those who set the processes – top managers, managers, but also officials. Without their understanding, we will remain in place. This is why it is important to continuously develop digital and green skills at all levels," says Mário Lelovský, President of the Digital Coalition.
The essence of the project is the so-called reference frameworks. It is a simple, understandable and clear scaling of employees’ digital and green skills, which are essential for the exercise of specific professions. Similarly to the scaling of language skills, these reference frameworks create a common language between employers and employees.
“The public administration has an indispensable role to play in promoting awareness-raising and the development of digital and green skills. As self-governing regions, we are in daily contact with the realities of the labour market, the needs of employers, schools and the public. That is why we are happy to support the Digital Coalition initiative and help create a space for expert discussion, exchange of experience and practical application of new skills. Topics such as digitalisation, energy efficiency or modern technologies must be part of the public debate – and taken seriously.” Jozef Viskupič, President SK8.
