Children spend more and more time online and are often not yet able to assess the risks.

In the JOJ24 video report, Pavol Šedo, Operational Director of the Digital Coalition shares tips on how to guide children to use technology safely and responsibly. “Parents should be guides, not just controllers,” he says.

Spending quality time together – including in the online world – reduces risks and strengthens trust. Activities such as IT Fitness Test or tutorials on Kry-sa.sk, Digital Parents etc. can help. Trust-based communication is key, as are account security settings and parenting tools.

Rules vary by age – from minimum screen time for preschoolers to fostering critical thinking and digital identity for teenagers.

Pavol Šedo recommends that children regularly talk about what they are watching, set clear boundaries, teach them to think critically and lead by example. He also draws attention to the new “Catalogue of Youth Risks in Cyberspace”of the Ministry of Education.
