Promoting digital literacy in pre-school supported by EU Code Week grant program in Latvia Created byAndra Krasavina|Updated01 February 2026In April, within the framework of the Code4Europe project, the Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) announced the call for the EU Code Week support grant programme. Organisations from all over Latvia were invited to apply for support grants to implement initiatives for developing digital skills, programming, and algorithmic thinking throughout Latvia.The grant application evaluation committee decided to support 6 local digital skills projects, including the project “Digital Literacy in Preschool” by the Alūksne pre-school educational institution “Sprīdītis” with the aim to engage, inform and educate the participants about the possibilities of using robots in the learning process (or outside it) to strengthen or improve the programming foundations in pre-school age. Educators are happy to use technology if it is available as a resource, they want to learn and experiment in the same way as children. In total, 25 teachers from 14 different educational institutions from all over Latvia participated in the "Digital Literacy" training.The Children developed a positive and safe attitude towards technology, learned an understanding of digital security, use, knowledge that technology is not entertainment, but a learning tool.
