Walter Quattrociocchi, Asunción Gómez-Pérez and Raja Chatila bring expertise from three AISHA member organisations to the European Commission’s independent Scientific Panel.

Three experts from AISHA member organisations have been appointed to the European Commission’s AI Act Scientific Panel: Professor Walter Quattrociocchi of Sapienza University of Rome, Professor Asunción Gómez-Pérez of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Professor Raja Chatila of Sorbonne University.

The appointments highlight the breadth of expertise within the organisations contributing to AISHA. Professor Quattrociocchi’s work focuses on the intersection between artificial intelligence, complex systems, information ecosystems, and societal impact. Professor Gómez-Pérez has extensive experience in knowledge representation, the Semantic Web and language technologies, and Professor Chatila’s research is grounded in robotics and autonomous systems, with a special emphaisi on AI ethics.

These complementary fields connect technical development with questions about how AI systems operate in society. They are also relevant to the European AI Skills Academy’s ambition to support the development and responsible use of AI through education and training.

The Scientific Panel brings together 60 independent experts to advise the AI Office and national authorities. Its responsibilities include identifying systemic risks associated with general-purpose AI, advising on evaluation methods and supporting market surveillance. Members are appointed for a renewable 24-month term.

The three professors serve on the Panel in their personal capacity, independently of AISHA and their organisations. Their appointments recognise individual expertis. They do not create institutional seats for consortium members or give AISHA a role in enforcing the AI Act.

AISHA is building the European AI Skills Academy through cooperation among education providers, researchers, industry and other stakeholders. The connection with these experts illustrates the range of knowledge within its member organisations as the project develops its education and training activities.
