University of Piraeus – Google Greece: Collaboration on digital skills development and Artificial Intelligence education
On 11.11.2025, the University of Piraeus and Google Greece signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at jointly implementing educational actions and training programs that enhance digital skills and promote the understanding and utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, business and society.
The Memorandum was signed by the Rector of the University of Piraeus, Professor Michael Sfakianakis and Google's Regional Director General for Southeast Europe, Peggy Antonakou and marks the beginning of an important collaboration between academia and the private sector to enhance digital skills in the country. It provides for joint promotion measures, with full respect for the protection of personal data, intellectual property rights, as well as transparency and anti-corruption legislation.
Within the framework of the cooperation, it is possible to attend educational programmes, in person and online, each lasting 90 minutes, which will be addressed to students, academic and administrative staff of the University. The seminars will cover a wide range of topics around Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation. Students can register here. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of each training.
It is worth noting that, in October 2025, Google brought the most modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to students of Greek universities, aged 18 and over, completely free of charge. Through Gemini, Google aims to equip young people with basic AI skills and the most advanced models to excel in their studies and prepare for inclusion in the future workforce. Our students can enroll in the Google AI Pro Plan for 12 months for free and gain access to the best AI tools.
This collaboration is part of the University of Piraeus’s strategy to boost innovation, entrepreneurship and digital skills, as well as Google’s long-standing commitment to supporting the digital empowerment and education of citizens in Greece.
