MAI4CAREU - Deep Learning - Mathematics of Deep Learning Created byJuliette Chalant Devlesaver|Updated17 May 2024The University of Cyprus's MSc Deep Learning is part of the Master programmes in Artificial Intelligence 4 Careers in Europe (MAI4CAREU). One of Master's programme's courses, MAI642 - Deep Learning is taught by Associate Professor Theocharis Theocharides and split up into several lectures. The third lecture on Mathematics and Learning follows the first two lectures on ‘Introduction to Deep Learning’ and ‘Fundamentals of Deep Learning’, which cover the basics of Deep Learning.Learning outcomesIn particular, this lecture focuses on:Linear Classifiers, Linear Machines with Hinge Loss, Gradient Descent, Activation and Loss Functions; andOptimisation Techniques, Gradient Descent, Batch Optimisation, Introduction to Meta-Learning, Hessian-Free Optimisation. The lecture illustrates the theory with practical examples and interactive diagrams to offer students a comprehensive understanding of the course material. Professor Theocharides also provides books and reading material at the beginning of the lecture for further learning.Course content and scheduleThe MAI642 - Deep Learning course is spread out over 13 weeks of lectures, which are split into 13 lectures covering 4 broader topics: Week 1-3: Basics Week 4: Fundamentals of Deep (Convolutional) LearningWeek 5-9: Deep Neural Networks – Deep into deep learningWeek 10-13: Emerging Deep Learning research and applicationsThe course then wraps up with a comprehensive final exam.
