Free AI Handbook for Teachers

Osztálykirándulás.hu has published a free handbook on the everyday use of artificial intelligence in teaching. The 34-page guide is built on a survey of 4,580 Hungarian teachers and is designed around the three obstacles they most often reported: lack of time, uncertainty about the reliability of AI outputs, and not knowing where to begin.

The handbook takes a practical rather than theoretical approach. Its five chapters cover:

• choosing a tool: a comparison of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and NotebookLM, and why learning one tool well is usually more effective than sampling several;
• writing effective prompts, including the components of a well-formed request and a worked example of a weak prompt rewritten;
• ready-made prompt templates by subject, covering Hungarian, mathematics, foreign languages, science, history and administrative tasks;
• a step-by-step NotebookLM workflow for turning a textbook chapter into a quiz, an infographic or a set of slides;
  ground rules for using AI in schools in line with GDPR.

The survey behind the handbook found that teachers would most value AI support for producing differentiated worksheets (76%), lesson plans and schemes of work (61%), individual development plans (49%) and their own professional learning (47%).

All the methods described work with freely available AI models and require no paid subscription.
