Open Neuromorphic (ONM) started as a disorganised group of open-source enthusiasts from universities, businesses and private individuals who were all interested in neuromophic computing – a technology inspired by the human brain’s way of processing information that has the potential to revolutionise everything from energy-efficient computing to real-time sensory in robotics. Today, it is a platform that brings together researchers, developers and enthusiasts around neuromorphic computing, with over 2,500 members on Discord. The aim is to make knowledge, tools and resources available to anyone who wants to explore or work with spiking neural networks (SNN), event-based sensors and neuromorphic hardware.Although Neuromorphic Computing has not achieved the same hype as AI and quantum computers (ENDNU!), Neuromorphic Computing has a huge potential in the digital transformation, and is already seeing exciting results. With this hub, the community can drive positive change in a complex area that is often overlooked. What do you find on Open Neuromorphic?Guides and resourcesNeuromorphic Hardware Guide: A comprehensive overview of the latest chips and architectures, including specifications, design principles and links to research. Here you can learn about cutting-edge solutions such as IBM’s NorthPole and BrainChip’s Akida.Neuromorphic Software Guide: A curated collection of open-source frameworks for SNN, such as snnTorch, BindsNET, Norse and SpikingJelly. Perfect for those who want to simulate or train spiking networks with Python and PyTorch. Blog and articlesIn-depth and current posts on everything from bio-inspired visual attention to effective event data compression. The articles provide insight into how neuromorphic principles can be applied in robotics, edge computing and AI.Workshops and eventsLive sessions with experts, e.g. about designing neuromorphic SoCs or introducing new chips like the TSP1 Neural Network Accelerator. These workshops are ideal for both students and professionals who want hands-on experience.Open Neuromorphic Research (ONR)A community-driven peer-review program where you can submit your projects and have them assessed for quality and reproducibility. ONR promotes open science and gives recognition to open-source contributions. Community and networkOver 2,500 members at Discord, the GitHub project sharing organization, and a network of partners from academia and industry. Here you can ask questions, share code, participate in live coding and find partners. If you are new to the field, you can start with introduction guides and blog posts. If you are a researcher or developer, you can benefit from benchmarks, frameworks and hardware specifications, as well as contribute by uploading your projects, participating in peer review, or becoming part of the Discord community. You may also be interested inNews27 January 2026Commission opens call for evidence on Open-Source Digital Ecosystems The European Commission has launched a call for evidence on the upcoming European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy - an initiative that will support EU ambitions to secure technological sovereignty.
