SELFIE Self Assessment Tool Created byGalina MISHEVA|Updated06 March 2026The European Commission's SELFIE tool aims to help schools access their knowledge and experience with digital technologies for teaching and learning. It provides the possibility to tailor questions so they match specific contexts and needs, such as students using the tool as part of a lesson and generates a report for the school to show the results in a visual and aggregated way.The findings, generated by SELFIE, can be used by schools to explore further how different types of technology have the potential to support learning, teaching and assessment. The tool was developed by a selected team of experts in the field, coming from schools, research institutes and educational ministries. SELFIE is based on the European Commission's framework for promoting digital-age learning in educational organisations. Thousands of students, teachers and school leaders have been involved in the implementation of the programme, which now offers concrete tools for knowledge-building in schools. Today, the tool is available for any primary, secondary and vocational school in Europe, in over 30 languages and it can be used regardless of the level of infrastructure and equipment of each school. Upon completing SELFIE, each school receives a detailed and interactive tailor-made report, which contains in-depth data and useful insights on strong areas and areas where skills can be improved.
