This module introduces the principles and practices of securing database systems. Using Oracle as the reference platform, students will explore access control, data protection, auditing, and the detection and prevention of unauthorized activities.

It is also designed to equip participants with core advanced skills to configure, secure, and maintain essential network services, ensuring reliability, availability, and resilience in modern infrastructures.

Finally it aims to provide with advanced capabilities to implement, analyse, and optimize monitoring systems that provide real-time visibility, accelerated troubleshooting, and actionable insights for performance and security.

Main Objectives

First Part: Advanced Database Security

  • Understand the key principles of database security.
  • Apply access control mechanisms: authentication, privileges, roles.
  • Explore advanced features like Virtual Private Database (VPD) and Data Redaction.
  • Understand encryption techniques for data at rest and in transit.
  • Learn how Oracle SQL Firewall (23ai) detects suspicious SQL behaviour.
  • Gain awareness of common attack vectors and prevention strategies

Second Part: Advanced Network Services Management

  • Build a quick foundational understanding of why service management is critical.
  • Learn the most impactful configurations and security measures
  • Manage protocols efficiently and prevent common operational risks
  • Apply practical security controls without complicating operations.
  • Understand the minimum HA essentials for critical services.
  • Understand the key principles of modern monitoring and how metrics, logs, and events combine to achieve effective system observability.
  • Learn to select and configure real-time monitoring methods—both agent-based and agentless—ensuring accuracy, coverage, and secure telemetry.
  • Develop the ability to interpret metrics and logs to detect anomalies, identify bottlenecks, and perform fast, evidence-based troubleshooting.
  • Be able to design effective dashboards, reports, and alerts that evaluate system health, reduce noise, and improve operational decision-making

Outcomes:

The course issues an open badge with the acquired skills.

By completing this module, participants will:

  • Concerning Advanced Database Security:
  • Understand core principles of database security, including access control, encryption, and advanced Oracle features (VPD, Data Redaction, SQL Firewall).
  • Recognize common attack vectors and apply effective prevention strategies to protect data at rest and in transit.
  • Concerning Advanced Network Services & Monitoring:
  • Grasp the fundamentals of service management and apply essential configurations and security measures to critical network services.
  • Manage protocols and apply practical controls to reduce operational risks without adding complexity.
  • Understand modern observability concepts and configure accurate real‑time monitoring (agent‑based and agentless).
  • Analyse metrics and logs to detect anomalies, troubleshoot efficiently, and optimize system performance.
  • Design effective dashboards, alerts, and reporting mechanisms to support reliable and informed operational decision‑making.
