Advanced Security Testing & Vulnerability Assessment (Cyber Pro Train)

Advanced Security Testing & Vulnerability Assessment (Cyber Pro Train)

Start Date
16.June.2026
End date
18.Jun.2026

This training module introduces participants to advanced security testing methodologies and vulnerability assessment techniques used to identify, analyse, and mitigate cybersecurity risks in modern applications and systems.

The training module is developed within the context of the Cyber Pro Train project, funded under the Digital Europe Programme of the European Union. Cyber Pro Train addresses the critical cybersecurity skills shortage in the European Union by developing an innovative, scalable education and training model tailored for professionals in SMEs and public administrations.

About this course

This training module aims to provide participants with a practical understanding of advanced security testing approaches and vulnerability assessment practices used in cybersecurity environments. Participants will explore techniques for identifying weaknesses in applications, systems, and infrastructures before they can be exploited by attackers.

The course introduces concepts such as Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), Software Composition Analysis (SCA), fuzz testing, penetration testing methodologies, and vulnerability management principles. Learners will also examine common vulnerabilities including SQL Injection, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), insecure dependencies, and authentication weaknesses.

Special attention is given to the role of security testing within secure development lifecycles and DevSecOps workflows. Participants will understand how proactive vulnerability detection supports risk reduction and strengthens application security.

Target audience

The training is designed for professionals, including SME employees, ICT practitioners, developers, cybersecurity learners, students, and Public Administration staff interested in strengthening their knowledge of security testing and vulnerability assessment practices.

Topics and program

The module runs in 3 editions: 16 June 2026 (Italy), 17 June 2026 (Greece) and 18 June 2026 (Spain). Topics include:

  • Introduction to Security Testing
  • SAST and DAST Methodologies
  • Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing
  • Software Composition Analysis (SCA)
  • Fuzzing and Input Validation Testing
  • Common Web and Application Vulnerabilities
  • Practical Security Analysis and Exercises

Duration: Up to 1 week (5 days - 40 hours)

Learning outcomes

After completing the training, participants will understand modern security testing methodologies, recognize common vulnerabilities and attack vectors, interpret vulnerability assessment results, and apply proactive testing principles within secure development processes.

Upon successful completion, learners receive an open badge, recognising the acquired cybersecurity and security testing skills.
