This course provides an overview of how AI and machine learning are applied in cybersecurity, including the basics of machine learning algorithms and their applications in threat analysis. It is developed in the context of the Cyber Pro Train project, funded under the Digital Europe Programme of the European Union. Cyber Pro Train addresses the critical cybersecurity skills shortage in the European Union by developing an innovative, scalable education and training model tailored for professionals in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public administrations. 

About this course 

This course explores an AI application in civilian and military cybersecurity, focusing on Machine Learning for threat intelligence through case studies and hands-on ML model implementation.

Prerequisites 

  • 6.1 ADV - Software available on the participant's workstation: Python with package Spacy

Themes and topics 

  • AI Applications in Cybersecurity – Civilian and Military Use Case: get to know civilian and military applications of AI and how to compare them, analyse a case study on AI in cybersecurity and demonstrate an implementation of an ML model. 

    • Practical Exercise: Case study discussion, analysis, and hands-on AI model demonstration.
    • Interactive Quiz: Multiple-choice questions on AI applications in cybersecurity.
       
  • Machine Learning for Cyber Threat Intelligence: explore the ways machine learning is applied to cyber threat intelligence, and analyse a real-world example of ML in cybersecurity. 
    • Practical Exercises: Short research assignment on AI technologies and classification of cyber threats using a simple ML model.
    • Interactive Quiz: Identify AI vs. ML vs. Deep Learning and model matching exercise.
