Cyber Hygiene (CyberSuite)

Cyber Hygiene (CyberSuite)

The Cyber Hygiene Course provides a practical and accessible introduction to the essential practices required to maintain digital health and security in everyday environments. It is designed to help individuals and small organisations understand how common cyber threats emerge and how simple, consistent security behaviours can significantly reduce risk.

The course is developed as part of the Digital Europe Programme-funded CyberSuite project, which aims to empower individuals and organisations with the right know-how to tackle cyber threats.

'Cyber Hygiene' targets individuals with little or no prior cybersecurity background, including employees across all sectors, students and recent graduates entering the workforce, small business owners, and general internet users who wish to strengthen their digital security practices. Through short theoretical explanations, practical examples, and knowledge checks, learners are guided step by step from foundational concepts to applied cyber hygiene routines.

About this course

Participants explore common cyber threats such as phishing, malware, ransomware, and insider risks, alongside core security mechanisms including encryption, firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), password managers, and multi-factor authentication. The course places strong emphasis on practical implementation, covering safe password creation, MFA setup, regular software updates, secure browsing habits, data backup practices, and basic risk identification.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion, learners will be able to define cyber hygiene, recognise common cyber risks, and apply essential security measures to protect personal and organisational data. They will also be equipped to develop and maintain a proactive, security-first mindset, enabling continuous improvement of their cyber hygiene practices and overall digital resilience.
