Cybersecurity Awareness and Innovation

This course, developed by EIT Digital in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid aims to equip learners with a foundational understanding of cybersecurity and improve general awareness of the technology's potential for innovation (and associated challenges). The course targets students, business executives, professionals in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and jobseekers to offer an overview of essential concepts related to identity management and the basics of cybersecurity principles and practices. Teaching staff comprises of Iván Pau, UPM researcher and expert in usable security, and Román Ramírez, hacker and cybersecurity expert.

Objectives

The course provides a practical overview of managing digital identity credentials, ensuring security whilst using the internet, and takes learners through the most common types of cybersecurity-related attacks - and how to protect oneself from them. The course's modules are organised across 4 weeks and in total take around 7 hours to complete. No prerequisite knowledge is required to participate. The course is offered in English, with subtitles in several other languages.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will improve their knowledge and awareness of cybersecurity technology, principles, terminology, application and implications. They will be able to describe tactics and concepts related to identity management online and list the most common risks and attacks associated with them. They will also improve their knowledge of various effective protection mechanisms of identity management and develop their own approach to identity protection.
