Graduates into Work: Understanding and Interacting with SME Employers

Online

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offer graduates a wide range of career opportunities, but are often overlooked in favour of larger organisations. This course introduces learners to the SME job market, exploring how these organisations recruit, what employers look for in graduates, and the workplace culture and career development opportunities they offer.

About the course

Learners will discover how to research SMEs, identify relevant opportunities, showcase their skills and prepare targeted applications. It also explores practical strategies for connecting directly with employers, including networking and speculative applications, as well as the impact of remote and hybrid working on SME recruitment.

Drawing on the expertise of the University of York’s Careers and Placements team, the course provides practical insights to help graduates build confidence, strengthen their employability and navigate opportunities within the SME sector.
