Introduction to Systems Security in IoT (DIGITWIN4CIUE)

Introduction to Systems Security in IoT is a massive open online course (MOOC) developed by EUCEDIC, the European Center Of Excellence in Digitalization of Infrastructures and Cities in the context of the Digital Twins for Complex Infrastructures and Urban Ecosystems (DIGITWIN4CIUE) project.

About this course

This MOOC presents the fundamental concepts of computer systems security applied to Internet of Things (IoT) environments. It focuses on securing IoT systems, covering vulnerabilities, threats, and mitigation strategies, and covers network security, device security, data security, and IoT-specific vulnerabilities.

The course emphasizes standards compliance and vulnerability mitigation in Digital Twin contexts, and equips professionals with the knowledge to design secure IoT architectures and respond to cyber threats in infrastructure and urban systems.

Course modules

The MOOC is split across 5 modules:

  1. Introduction
  2. IoT fundamentals
  3. Network security
  4. Device security
  5. Data security

Key topics and themes include IoT architecture, cybersecurity, encryption and authentication, and risk mitigation.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify IoT security risks
  • Apply security mechanisms
  • Design secure IoT systems
