Master of Science in Health Informatics (SUSA)

Programme structure

The programme is delivered full-time over one year using a blended learning model designed to support working professionals. Teaching is organised around a single dedicated day per week (currently Fridays, on campus), complemented by online tutorials and laboratory sessions.

Modules are delivered across Semester 1 and Semester 2, followed by completion of a research dissertation or applied project in the summer semester.

• The programme explores the intersection of digital technologies and healthcare systems, including electronic health records, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital health applications
• Core areas include health data management, system design, decision support, and digital health transformation
• Students develop practical and analytical skills through applied learning, including evaluation and implementation of healthcare technologies
• A strong emphasis is placed on data-driven decision-making and improving healthcare systems and outcomes

Students also complete specialised modules which support progression into areas such as:

• Health Data Science and AI
• Digital Health Innovation and Implementation

The programme culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to apply their knowledge to a real-world healthcare or digital health challenge.

Eligible students

Applicants must hold a minimum of a 2:2 honours bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

Relevant backgrounds include, but are not limited to:

• Healthcare and health sciences
• Computer science, IT, or data-related disciplines
• Engineering, science, or quantitative fields
• Business or management (with relevant experience)

Applicants with significant professional experience in healthcare, digital health, IT, or related fields may also be considered on a case-by-case basis under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

The programme is designed for candidates interested in developing expertise at the intersection of healthcare, data, and digital technologies.

Application

Tuition Fees are approximately €8,200 (EU) and €22,400 (non‑EU), subject to annual review

Duration 1 year (full-time postgraduate programme, NFQ Level 9 (90 ECTS)

Applications are submitted through the University of Limerick application system and require academic transcripts, supporting documentation, and may include shortlisting or interview as part of the selection process.
