Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (SUSA)

Programme Structure

The MSc in Occupational Therapy is a two-year, full-time graduate-entry programme combining academic study with intensive practice-based learning, including approximately 1,000 hours of supervised clinical placements across healthcare and community settings.

In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology, occupational science, and evidence-based intervention approaches. Modules focus on human performance, occupational development across the lifespan, and the relationship between occupation, health, and wellbeing, alongside preparation for professional practice and initial clinical placements. 

Across Year 2, students progress to advanced practice, applying occupational therapy models in complex real-world contexts. The programmeemphasises clinical reasoning, leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in health and social care. Students also complete a structured research project aligned with their professional interests.

Teaching is delivered through lectures, workshops, experiential learning, reflective practice, and supervised placements, ensuring integration of theory and practice.

The programme aims to develop graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies required to assess, plan, and deliver occupational therapy interventions that promote independence, participation, and wellbeing using evidence-based, person-centred approaches. 

Eligible students 

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) with a minimum second-class honours (2:2) or higher, in any discipline. Admission requires completion of the HPAT (or ISAT for international applicants), along with additional requirements such as health screening and vetting.

Tuition:EU: €13,300 per annum. Non‑EU: €26,700 per annum (Year 2 fees subject to change)

Duration: The MSc. Occupational Therapy is a 2 years (full-time postgraduate programme, NFQ Level 9 (120 ECTS) 

Application Process:

Applications are submitted directly through the University of Limerick system. Admission is competitive and requires completion of the HPAT/ISAT, along with submission of academic documentation and supporting materials.
