Programme Structure

The programme is delivered full-time over two years and combines intensive academic study with clinical placement experience. Teaching takes place across autumn, spring, and summer semesters and includes lectures, workshops, experiential learning, and supervised research.

Year 1 focuses on foundational knowledge and clinical preparation. Students study linguistics, anatomy and physiology relevant to communication, and core theoretical frameworks for speech and language therapy. They develop research skills and begin supervised clinical placements, alongside modules addressing communication disorders in adults and children.

Year 2 builds advanced clinical competencies, including assessment and management of swallowing disorders, voice, fluency, and complex communication needs. Students continue clinical placements, complete a research project, and develop skills in leadership, innovation, and advanced clinical decision-making.

Placement learning is a central component throughout the programme, enabling students to apply theory in real healthcare environments and develop multidisciplinary practice skills.
