The Master in Cybersecurity is a one-year (60 ECTS) program by the University of Murcia specialised in both technical and management .

The Master is delivered through synchronous online classes from Monday to Thursday in the afternoon, offering flexibility for both students and professionals. Designed to support both academic and professional ambitions, the programme prepares students to pursue a doctoral thesis or launch a career in the cybersecurity field. Career opportunities include roles such as Cybersecurity Architect, Cyber Incident Responder, and Penetration Tester. Combining theoretical foundations with hands-on labs, realistic scenarios, Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges, and cutting-edge subjects, the programme employs an innovative teaching methodology. Students also benefit from additional courses leading to professional certifications, as well as participation in seminars and conferences led by industry experts.

Learning Objectives

The Master’s in Cybersecurity aims to equip students with a robust and interdisciplinary foundation in both the technical and strategic aspects of cybersecurity. Throughout the programme, students will develop a broad understanding of the methods and techniques used in cyber-attacks and cyber-defence, and learn how to design, deploy, and maintain effective cybersecurity systems tailored to the needs of modern organisations. They will explore core cybersecurity concepts and technologies, and gain the ability to define and implement strategies, policies, and standards that ensure corporate security at all levels.

Students will become familiar with the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern cybersecurity at national and international levels. They will be trained to interpret these evolving regulations and offer informed guidance on their application within different organisational contexts. The programme also prepares students to supervise cybersecurity management processes, coordinate the efforts of internal teams and external service providers, and implement coherent and efficient security architectures.

A key focus is placed on the evaluation and mitigation of security risks: students will learn how to identify vulnerabilities, assess potential threats, and determine the value and impact of risks. They will also gain the skills necessary to define and manage mitigation strategies, incident response plans, and recovery protocols following a cyber incident. Additionally, the programme covers the fundamentals of digital forensics, enabling students to interpret forensic reports, extract actionable insights, and apply lessons learned to improve future preparedness.

The curriculum also emphasises the human and organisational dimensions of cybersecurity. Students will be expected to keep pace with emerging trends, adopt industry best practices, and integrate new standards and technologies into secure system design. They will develop the ability to oversee the physical and logical security of ICT infrastructures and support the secure development of software and data handling processes. By the end of the programme, graduates will be fully prepared to take on advanced roles in cybersecurity, whether as strategic advisors, technical specialists, or managers leading cross-functional teams in dynamic environments
