Mastering Cyber Range

Mastering Cyber Range

This course provides a practical, hands-on introduction to cyber-range training: using a safe, isolated environment that emulates real networks to practise both attacking and defending systems. Delivered across two sessions, it takes participants from cyber-range foundations to running live exercises in which red-team attacks are detected and handled by blue-team defenders.

Course objectives

  • Understand what a cyber range is, its components, and its role in security training and exercises
  • Distinguish the exercise roles (red, blue, white and purple teams) and how they interact
  • Design and run exercise scenarios against isolated targets
  • Detect malicious activity through network monitoring and intrusion-detection alerts
  • Triage and respond to incidents, mapping adversary behaviour to MITRE ATT&CK
  • Evaluate performance through scoring and a structured after-action review

By the end of this course, participants will be able to take part in cyber-range exercises with confidence, strengthening practical detection, response and teamwork skills in a realistic, risk-free setting.
