MOOC - Human Factors in Cybersecurity (CyberSecPro)

"Human Factors in Cybersecurity" is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) course, which gives you an introduction to the main threats, challenges and concerns that arise as a consequence of human behaviour and decision-making regarding technology use. 

The course is developed as part of the CyberSecPro project, which aims to advance competencies and professionalism in the EU cybersecurity sphere through cutting-edge education, short-term courses, and training material. The CyberSecPro project is funded via the Digital Europe Programme of the European Union. 

About this course

The lectures in this course focus on improving learners' ability to assess and manage cyber scams and threats (such as social manipulation). It gives participants solid research skills and the know-how they need to continue studying in the field, and create and implement study materials, training programs and tools, building on these skills, to increase level of cyber hygiene in users and companies. 

Learning outcomes

Upon final completion of this course, learners will be able to:  

  • Understands the current state of research in this area; 
  • Critically evaluate original research articles;
  • Analyse cyber competencies and find gaps and solutions to reduce human-related cyber risks;
  • Plan cyber-attacks which include elements of social engineering and propose defense mechanisms against them;
  • Assess and evaluate IT security interventions with employees;
  • Understand the behavioral science underpinnings of security-critical decision-making;
  • Understand how cognitive biases and human failure compromise practitioners' cybersecurity performance.
