Python Basics for Data Science MOOC

This beginner-friendly Python MOOC designed by IBM will quickly take participants from zero to programming in Python in just a few hours. By completing this course participants will be able to to write their own Python scripts and perform basic hands-on data analysis using our Jupyter-based lab environment, starting working with data in Python.

Participants in this course are expected to learn how to get started with Python as the programming language and learn how to start working with data in Python.

During this MOOC the following topics will be covered:

• What Python is and why it is useful
• The application of Python to Data Science
• How to define variables in Python
• Sets and conditional statements in Python
• The purpose of having functions in Python
• How to operate on files to read and write data in Python
• How to use pandas, a must have package for anyone attempting data analysis in Python.

Also, participants will have the opportunity to create their own data science projects and collaborating with other data scientists using IBM Watson Studio. By signing up to the course, students will receive free access to Watson Studio.
