Software Engineering (Programvaruteknik) Programme at Linnaeus University

Start Date
31.August.2026
End date
03.Jun.2029

IT is everywhere in our society – in homes, in healthcare and in industry. This Software Engineering (Programvaruteknik) programme focuses primarily on the software in IT systems, which can be found in everything from mobile phones and games to cars and industrial robots. As a computer scientist, you will gain solid knowledge in programming and in the art of designing and developing IT systems.

Computers are controlled by programs. These programs can be very small, or giant systems with millions of lines of program code. When developing larger programs, well-thought-out methods and good organization are required. How to organize, design, and develop large computer systems are skills you learn in software engineering, a field within computer science. You will also gain knowledge in other areas of computer science such as computer networks, databases, and operating systems.

Elective courses within the programme mean that you can create your own profile on the programme, e.g. in computer graphics/visualisation.

Career

A first employment will most likely involve working as a programmer within a larger organization. You can then move on to work as a project manager, consultant, or trainer. No matter where you end up, you'll probably be working in a team with other people. The IT world is global, which is why working abroad can be just as likely as working in Sweden.

Degree

Bachelor of Arts with major in Computer Science, specialization in Software Engineering

The program is given in two variants, one entirely in English and one in Swedish+English, which requires eligibility in Swedish.

Prepare with math

When your education starts, you are expected to have good knowledge of mathematics. The summer course preparatory mathematics is aimed at those who want to repeat the later parts of upper secondary school maths and intend to study an education in computer/IT, physics, mathematics, technology or economics.

The course is given remotely during the summer and entitles you to apply for student aid. You register via antagning.se: Preparatory Mathematics for Higher Education Studies III
