UAS Technikum Wien Master of Science in Internet of Things and Smart Systems

The UAS Technikum Wien (FHTW) is offering a two-year Master of Science programme in Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Systems

As the networking of everyday objects, buildings, and even cities is steadily growing and becoming increasingly important, the Internet of Things sector is a growing field requiring a growing workforce. This programme will allow students to have the skills and knowledge required to pursue a variety of careers in the IoT field as they will have learned about the analysis, conceptual design, and implementation of IoT systems. Graduates can expect to become IoT System Architects, IoT Network Engineers, IoT Data Scientists among other career options.

This programme is taught in German and at a part-time pace. Students can expect around 11 hours of classes per week. Students who complete this programme will be conferred with 120 ECTS credits.

The programme has three central components:

  • System term: Holistic systems
  • Network term: Networking systems
  • Smartness: Automation or support

Optional double degree program

The program is also offered as a double degree program in cooperation with the Electrical Engineering or Computer Science master’s degree program UAS Luzern in Switzerland. Students of the Internet of Things and Smart Systems master’s degree program who are accepted into the double degree program study at UAS Technikum Wien the first year and at UAS Luzern the second year. After successfully completing the program, they receive two academic degrees.

Applicant profile

Applicants must have a relevant Bachelor's degree from a recognised domestic or foreign university. This previous degree must have conferred the applicant with 180 ECTS credits. Full or basic equivalence can be established by the FHTW. 

In the case of basic equivalence, applicants must pass exams to achieve full equivalence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate they have a proficient level of German to undertake this programme. This programme requires a B2 level according to the CEFR. Any documents issued in languages other than German or English must be accompanied with a German or English translation. 

Typical career paths include: IoT System Architect, IoT Network Engineer, IoT Software Developer, IoT Data Scientist, IoT Security Engineer and IoT Business Analyst.
