VLabS - Virtual Laboratory for Semiconductor Technology (Chips of Europe)

The CHIPS of Europe project, funded under the DIGITAL Europe Programme of the European Union, is transforming semiconductor education by introducing a virtual lab, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in chip design, manufacturing, and nanotechnology—no matter where they are. 

As the semiconductor industry rapidly evolves, universities must provide cutting-edge training that aligns with real-world industry needs. Virtual labs offer a flexible, scalable, and innovative solution to bridge the skills gap and prepare students for the future.

Why Virtual Labs?

• Accessibility for All
  Not every university has access to advanced semiconductor fabrication facilities. Virtual labs democratize learning, allowing students across Europe to gain practical experience in semiconductor technology.
• Cost-Effective Training – Building and maintaining cleanrooms and chip fabrication plants is expensive. Virtual labs provide a realistic simulation environment without requiring physical infrastructure.
• Real-World Industry Scenarios – Students can experiment with chip design, circuit testing, and fabrication processes in a risk-free environment, replicating real semiconductor industry workflows.

VLabS is hosted by Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences, Germany and still under construction, but first modules and processes can be tested.
