European Initiatives

Set up by the European Commission 17 years ago, today EURAXESS has grown to represent a pan-European network with an international impact, bringing together 42 countries in Europe and 600 organisations throughout the world. The network's aim is to provide support to researchers, interested in working, studying and living in another European country, and facilitate international research mobility outside of the EU.

The 42 national EURAXESS portals provide country-specific information on jobs and funding opportunitities, as well as career guidance and advice on day-to-day issues for researchers throughout Europe. Through the 600 international EURAXESS Support Centres, the network offers free of charge, personalised assistance in 18 areas of expertise, targeting researchers' mobility from one country in Europe to another. On a broader level, the EURAXESS network also aims to strengthen cooperation when it comes to research mobility throughout Europe and beyond. EURAXESS Worldwide, a networking tool created by the initiative, offers a point of contact and information for European researchers abroad, and works to facilitate transnational mobility between researchers from the European Research Area (ERA) and participating international countries.

Researchers can find personalised assistance and practical advice on job and funding opportunities, support with career development, or day-to-day life (such as banking, day care or education) in Europe and abroad via EURAXESS. Information on hosting researchers, eligibility criteria and admission procedures, and country-specific health and medical insurance guidance is also available. EURAXESS also offers a bridge between research centres, academic institutions, universities and industry companies in the R&D (research and development) and Innovation sector and individual researchers. Organisations can post vacancies on the EURAXESS portal to find researchers with relevant skills for their projects, and build partnerships with other stakeholders through the EURAXESS network.

Through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building and the provision of information, EURAXESS supports researchers to move, work, and live throughout Europe and boosts their capacity to develop innovative and impactful solutions.
