AIAS Onlus Bologna

AIAS Bologna Onlus is a non-profit organization based in Bologna, Italy, committed to promoting autonomy, inclusion, and quality of life for people with disabilities and other conditions of fragility. Established in 1962 as part of a broader national movement to support individuals with disabilities, AIAS Bologna has evolved into a multidisciplinary center of excellence in the field of social and health services. Its mission is to support people across the life span—children, adults, and the elderly—by developing personalized, integrated pathways for care, rehabilitation, and empowerment. AIAS Bologna blends a human-centered approach with technical expertise, working closely with families, caregivers, professionals, and institutions to build inclusive and accessible communities. What distinguishes the organization is its ability to combine direct social and rehabilitation services with innovative research and development. AIAS Bologna fosters a culture of collaboration across disciplines, involving occupational therapists, engineers, psychologists, educators, and social workers in the co-design of solutions tailored to the unique needs of each individual. From early intervention to adult life planning, its services span a wide range of support for physical, cognitive, and social inclusion. Over the years, AIAS Bologna has become a regional and national reference point in the use of assistive technologies, environmental adaptations, and inclusive digital solutions. In particular, the organization plays a leading role in promoting digital literacy among people with disabilities and older adults, offering training programs, personalized support, and digital help desks aimed at bridging the digital divide. At the same time, it conducts applied research in the field of assistive technology, contributing to national and European innovation projects focused on telecare, robotics, and accessible digital design. It operates within a network of public and private partnerships and participates in European projects, while remaining rooted in local communities and daily care practices. Driven by values of dignity, participation, and innovation, AIAS Bologna Onlus continues to play a leading role in rethinking how society cares for and includes its most vulnerable members.
