The American College of Greece is closing in on its 150 years of operation; it was founded in 1875, in Smyrna, Asia Minor (modern-day Ismir in Turkey) by American missionaries. After the Asia Minor catastrophe of 1922, it was relocated to Athens, Greece. Today, it is a co-educational, nonsectarian, not-for-profit private institution that serves over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
In 1981, it was the first American higher education institution to achieve US accreditation, which has since been granted to ACG by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). ACG is also validated by the Open University in the UK and is running an ever-expanding number of Study Abroad programs with over 50 partner institutions in the US, in Europe and in Asia.
In the fields of Information Technology, Cybersecurity and Computer Science, ACG is dedicated to advancing research across a broad spectrum of critical areas, including cybersecurity, data privacy, artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, network security, big data analytics, cloud computing, wireless networks, blockchain technologies, gaming, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Through innovative research, a commitment to diversity, program expansion, and strong industry partnerships, the department aims to excel in a rapidly evolving landscape, driving impactful advancements in technology, cybersecurity, and higher education.
