The Autonomous Province of Trento (generally known as Trentino) is a small and almost entirely
mountainous Italian region (6,200 km2) located in Northeast Italy. Administratively, the Province enjoys a large degree of autonomy in the sectors of health, education, welfare, and transport infrastructure.
The special condition of the PAT is established by the Statute of Autonomy. This act appoints to the
Province many duties and responsibilities that in other non-autonomous Italian provinces and regions are carried out by the central Italian Government.
In Trentino all the most important political decisions are taken locally, rather being referred to central Government; hence economic decisions are made rapidly, on the basis of the specific characteristics of the area and with the objective of promoting excellence. Bureaucratic procedures in Trentino, streamlined and effective, also benefit from Provincial autonomy.
-The Autonomous Province of Trento (PAT) counts around 4750 employees, from which about 120 are working in the Department of Health and Social Policies together with the Social Service Policy and the Health Policy Service.
