At the origin of the Federation of Portuguese Associations of Cerebral Palsy is, originally, the Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy of Lisbon (founded by a group of parents and technicians, in 1960, as a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, of and for Disabled People, made up of people with disabilities, parents, friends and coaches).
Then, over the years, the Federation assumed leadership representing the national territory and has been developing its action throughout the country through the Regional Centers of the South (Lisbon), North (Porto), Center (Coimbra), Viseu, Faro, Vila Real, Braga, Évora, Guimarães, Madeira, Alentejo Litoral (Odemira), Leiria, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco and Beja.
From 2006 onwards, were constituted as Associations with legal personality. And it was on May 4, 2006 that the Federation of Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Associations (FAPPC) was created.
More recently, FAPPC has taken on the defense and dissemination of all its members, promoting the rights of people with cerebral palsy – but also taking on an intervening role in generic issues related to disabilities. Therefore, the Federation has developed an interventionist and very present role with other bodies in the social sector, also being represented in national decision-making bodies and mechanisms at the level of intervention policies for people with disabilities.
