Hochschule Mainz (HSM) – Mainz University of Applied Sciences' strength lies in applied teaching, research and development. The diversity of professional competences is combined in the three schools of engineering, design and business. In addition the establishment of seven independent institutes have set new standards in the field of applied research and development, which are implemented in collaboration with a large number of cooperation partners from scientific and research sectors, museums and industry. About 5.455 students (Dec 2025) are enrolled in one of the 38 courses at HSM, more than 1100 have successfully completed their studies and around 30 are enrolled in a PhD project in cooperation with a full University in Germany, Europe or abroad. HSM employs 160 professors (2024), 254 lecturers and 406 employees (2024). One of the factors responsible for the successful development is the close integration of research with the respective disciplines.

Mainz University of Applied Sciences applies transdisciplinary thinking in order to provide contributions to socially complex issues. Scientific and practical thought patterns of different disciplines are connected in a new way in teaching and research. Critical reflection, creativity, scientific inquiry, and a solution-oriented approach are key elements in this process.
