USAL is considered to be one of the oldest Spanish universities in existence and is made up of nine teaching and administrative campuses spread throughout the city of Salamanca. The University of Salamanca had over 26 700 students registered in the first and second cycles of higher education in 2006/2007 making it a medium sized university overall.USAL offers 81 courses spread across five branches of knowledge. Namely these are: Social and Legal Sciences, Humanities, Experimental Sciences, Media, and Spanish. Alongside this, the University of Salamanca offers DELE certifications conferring students with certified levels of Spanish competency.
