EuroCC Romania: Online session on 10 September on access to High Performance Computing for EDIHs, SMEs and startups

EuroCC Romania organises on 10 September 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00, the online session “Connecting EDIHs, SMEs and Start-ups to HPC Opportunities” dedicated to the access of European Digital Innovation Hubs, SMEs and startups to High Performance Computing infrastructure.

About the event

The event is organised by RoNCC — the National Centre for Competences in High Performance Computing, hosted by ICI Bucharest. RoNCC is the national contact point in the European EuroCC network, which connects Member States to EuroHPC resources.

• Presentation of EuroCC Phase 3 – new identity of the programme, services available and opportunities open to organisations in Romania
• Interventions by invited European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) on supporting SMEs and start-ups in the uptake of High Performance Computing

Why it matters

Access to high-performance computing is the silent barrier to the uptake of artificial intelligence in the real economy. A small company does not build its own computing infrastructure, but can access EuroHPC resources through the National Competence Centre – provided it knows that this possibility exists and has the necessary skills to use it. It is precisely this information and skills gap that the session addresses.

The context is also relevant from another perspective: the debate on European artificial intelligence infrastructure – AI gigafactories – intensified in the summer of 2026, and a country’s ability to participate depends on a well-functioning HPC user ecosystem, not just investment in equipment.
