European Cancer Imaging Initiative - Joining forces for AI-powered imaging to save lives

On 6 February 2025, the European Commission, together with the European Society of Radiology and the EUCAIM project. The event focus on how the European Cancer Imaging Initiative utilizes health data and Artificial Intelligence to combat cancer.
Two years after the launch of the Initiative, the event will bring together Member States and stakeholders from research, innovation, and healthcare organizations. They will explore how the Initiative can contribute to the development of trustworthy AI tools for precision oncology and its role in the evolving European Health Data Space.
About the event
A key aspect of the event is the progress of the Cancer Image Europe Infrastructure, developed under the EUCAIM project. By 2026, this infrastructure will enable researchers, innovators, and clinicians to securely access extensive cancer image datasets, helping to accelerate cancer detection and improve treatment precision. The event will feature a declaration outlining the goal to provide access to at least 60 million cancer medical images in the European Union by 2027, reaffirming the commitment of Member States to digital healthcare transformation and advancing early cancer diagnosis and personalized treatments across Europe.
The event will also highlight the Joint Stakeholder Statement resulting from the Health Policy Platform Thematic Network on "Advancing Precision Medicine for Europe's Cancer Patients with AI-powered Imaging," led by the European Society of Radiology in collaboration with EUCAIM.
