Seven Days with the Media 2026 - Portugal

On Location

This year is the 14th edition of the popular Portuguese conference Seven Days with the Media, which aims to challenge citizens, schools and organisations and get them together to reflect on the impact of media and digital platforms on contemporary society.

About this event

The event is organised by the Informal Group on Media Literacy (GILM) and runs from 3 to 9 May 2026, with a range activities dedicated to media literacy and civic participation taking place throughout Portugal during that time frame. Open to the participation of the whole of society, the initiative encourages the organisation and sharing of activities – such as debates, workshops or educational projects – that contribute to the development of media skills.

This year’s theme – “Human Rights: networked or without a network?”, puts fundamental rights - and how these can be asserted, or undermined, at the very heart of the debate, in a context increasingly marked by social media, algorithms and the boosted digitalisation of everyday life.

The 2026 edition also proposes a broad reflection on issues such as hate speech, disinformation, polarisation and the impact of digital platforms on social relations and access to information. At the same time, it underlines the need to strengthen values such as respect, diversity, empathy and critical thinking.
