European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL)

The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) is an agency dedicated to developing and coordinating training for law enforcement officials of the EU Member States and third countries. Based in Budapest, CEPOL aims to building a safer Europe by facilitating knowledge sharing on issues and challenges concerning EU priorities in the field of security. 

Aiming to become the EU’s hub for law enforcement training, CEPOL focus on key thematic areas, including organised crime, counter-terrorism, and cyber crimes. The goal is to enhance cross-border cooperation through vocational training and learning. 

CEPOL's Cybercrime Academy

One of the thematic areas that CEPOL focuses on is cybercrime and cyber-related crime. With increasing digitalisation of European societies and economies, and the development of new technologies such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) and blockchain comes new vulnerabilities and increasingly sophisticated cyber risks and cyber-related crimes. In response to this context, CEPOL has created the Cybercrime Academy with the aim to strengthen the digital skills of law enforcement officials from across Europe. 

Law enforcement officials from all over Europe travel to the specialized training center in Budapest to develop their skills and knowledge on cybercrime and cyber-relalted illicit activities. 

Who is CEPOL made for? 

CEPOL seeks to help law enforcement officials acquire the skills and knowledge needed to prevent, and fight against, crime. The training offered by CEPOL is targeted towards:

• Police staff
• Customs staff
• Other relevant law enforcement staff 

The law enforcement officials will be tasked with:

• Preventing and fighting against serious crime affecting two or more Member States, terrorism and types of crime affecting a common interest covered by a Union policy
• Crisis management and public order – particularly involving international policing of major events
